One year of a tortoise is equivalent to 0.27 years of human life. Tortoises have a long lifespan and can generally live to be about 175 to 300 years old. Turtles have a very slow metabolism and can slow down their circadian rhythm, thus entering a state of suspended animation. In addition, turtle cells differentiate very slowly and reproduce many times. Its fibroblasts can be cultured in vitro for about 125 generations.

The reasons why turtles live longer:

1. Slow metabolism. Turtles have little activity, less physical exertion, slow body metabolism, and are not prone to aging.

2. Hibernate regularly. Turtles have the habit of hibernating. During hibernation, turtles stop growing and are not prone to aging, which can extend their lifespan.

3. Cell division takes a long time. Turtle cells can divide for up to 110 generations, which can delay the aging of their body functions.

4. Strong antioxidant capacity. Turtles have strong antioxidant capabilities and their bodies produce proteins that fight cell damage.
