Symptoms of gastric distension in dogs include abdominal pain, howling, restlessness, belching, salivation and vomiting, shallow breathing, tachycardia, conjunctival cyanosis, increased abdominal girth, and pain when palpating the abdomen. Severe cases can lead to death from dehydration, acidosis, gastric rupture and heart failure.

Treatment methods for gastric distension in dogs:

1. For analgesia, pethidine 1 mg/kg body weight can be used.

2. To empty the stomach, take 5-10 ml of vinegar and 5-10 ml of paraffin oil. Or 1-2 ml of lactic acid and 10 ml of paraffin oil, 1-2 times/day.

3. If the above methods are ineffective or the stomach is dilated due to gastric volvulus, foreign bodies in the stomach and small intestinal obstruction, laparotomy can be performed to remove the cause. For severely dehydrated dogs, intravenous fluids, sugar, and alkali supplementation therapy should be given.
