Feeding oral medication to a sick cat is very difficult. It is no less difficult than giving medication to a child. However, sometimes when a cat is sick or fed anthelmintics, the owner has to learn how to feed the cat oral medication. The cat does not know your intention in doing this, so it will be very uncooperative.

1. How to feed liquid medicine to cats

Step 1a: Hold the cat still, use your right hand to reach under the cat’s body, place the cat’s chest in your palm, and steadily lift the cat with your right hand holding the cat’s chest. Its body rests securely between your forearm and body.

Step 1b: If assisted by an assistant, place the cat on a table or a flat surface, and ask the assistant to put two hands around the cat's shoulders, and gently but firmly press the cat to make it sit. on the table to avoid scratching with its front paws.

Step c: If the cat resists, ask an assistant to wrap the cat completely in a large blanket or towel, leaving only the head exposed.

Step 2: Gently hold the cat’s mouth and let it slowly raise its head.

Step 3: Use a plastic eye drop bottle or a syringe with the needle removed to insert it into the corner of the cat’s mouth. Push or press gently to let the liquid flow into the mouth a little at a time. After the cat swallows it slowly, press gently again to administer the medicine.

Step 4: Gently rub the cat’s throat to stimulate the swallowing response. ​​​​​​

2. How to give pills to cats

Step one: Place one hand on the cat’s head, place your thumb and fingers on the side of the cat’s canine teeth (as shown in the picture), and use your palm to hold the other parts of the cat’s head

Step 2: Gently tilt the cat’s head upward so that the cat’s nose faces upward

Step 3: Tighten your thumb and index finger, the cat’s mouth will open

Step 4: Hold the tablet with your other hand, keep the cat’s mouth open, and use your middle finger to place the tablet in the cat’s mouth as close to the throat as possible.

Step 5: Quickly close the cat’s mouth and gently rub the cat’s throat to stimulate the swallowing response.

If the cat is difficult to control, other assistants will be needed to keep it safe. If the tablets are very large, lubricating them with petroleum jelly or butter is a good option. You can break the tablet into pieces, but this may scratch your cat's throat.
