Domestic rabbit scratches generally do not carry any viruses, but they must be cleaned and disinfected immediately. While squeezing out the blood from the scratched area, rinse with running water for about five minutes. It depends on the depth of the wound. If the wound is relatively shallow, it can be disinfected and smeared with alcohol. If the wound is deep, debridement is required. If the wound is deep and closed, tetanus vaccine injection is required.

Of course, if you are really worried, you can also get a shot of rabies vaccine. Because theoretically all warm-blooded animals may carry rabies virus, but currently there are no cases of rabbits being infected with rabies virus, so generally speaking, rabies vaccination is not required.

The reasons why rabbits scratch their owners:

1. Fear. When a rabbit is chased or restrained, it will cause the rabbit to panic and bite and scratch.

2. Environmental pressure. Noisy, cramped, or other unfavorable living conditions can cause rabbits to feel uncomfortable and scratch people due to stress.

3. Defend territory. Both unneutered male rabbits and pregnant female rabbits are particularly prone to territorial behavior. They may attack people when they feel their territory is being invaded.
