Mother cats usually don’t come back after taking away their kittens. There are two reasons why a mother cat takes away a kitten. One is that the mother cat feels that the place is unsafe so she wants to move the kitten. ​​​​​​

Generally, wild cats outside are very vigilant. When they find that their lives are being "monitored" or that the kitten smells human, it will feel seriously threatened, and sometimes it will even smell human smell on its body. And kittens with a strong smell should be abandoned directly.

Another reason is that nature emphasizes survival of the fittest, and thinner children will be abandoned by their parents to remove inferior genes from the population. Or the mother cat does not have enough milk, so she takes out the kitten in the worst condition and prevents it from sucking milk.
