Brazilian turtles are not toxic, but most hatchlings carry salmonella, which can be easily transmitted to pregnant women and children.

But this bacteria can be killed. As long as you wash your hands with disinfectant after touching the Brazilian turtle, you will not be infected with Salmonella.

And the number of bacteria carried by Brazilian turtles after adulthood will be much reduced. Usually, if you wash your hands after feeding or touching Brazilian turtles, you will not be infected with bacteria.

Notes on raising Brazilian turtles:

1. The appropriate amount of water needs to be flush with the shell of the Brazilian turtle. Because the Brazilian tortoise is a turtle that breathes with its lungs, if it stays in the water for too long, it needs to go to the surface of the water for oxygen. It has no breathing support, and being immersed in the water for too long can lead to bacterial infections and diseases such as turtle shell rot.

2. Keep the water clean regularly. It is recommended to change the water every two to three days. You can put rocks, sand piles, branches and other objects in the water to provide a place for the Brazilian turtle to rest and bask.
