Diagnosis and treatment of canine esophagitis

Diagnostic criteria for canine esophagitis:
1. All or part of the esophageal mucosal abnormalities can be found through endoscopy.
2. Biopsy is helpful for confirming the diagnosis.
Treatment methods for canine esophagitis:
1. Treatment includes the use of antacids and H2 receptor antagonists. Cimetidine, 5 mg/kg, 3 times a day; ranitidine, 2 mg/kg, 2 times a day, can increase the pH in the stomach and promote the healing of the esophageal mucosa.
2. In severe cases, the proton pump inhibitor omeprazole needs to be given, 0.75mg/kg, once a day. Cisapride, 0.5 mg/kg 3 times daily, can increase the pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter.
