Do elderly dogs need surgery for pyometra?

Pyometra in elderly dogs requires surgical treatment. The uterus and ovaries of the elderly dog are removed, and then systemic anti-inflammatory treatment is performed. However, the elderly dog needs to undergo a systemic physical examination first to determine the physical condition before surgery. If surgical treatment is not performed, purulent secretions in the uterus may leak out and enter the abdominal cavity of the elderly dog, causing infection and other symptoms. In severe cases, it may lead to the death of the elderly dog.
Symptoms of pyometra in female dogs:

Purulent secretions are discharged, the abdominal circumference is larger, breathing and heartbeat are accelerated, and in severe cases, it is difficult to breathe, the abdominal skin is tense, the abdominal subcutaneous veins are bulging, and the patient likes to lie down.

The cervical canal is not completely closed, and a small amount of purulent secretion flows out from the vulva from time to time, which is cream-colored, gray or reddish-brown and smells bad. It smells bad and often contaminates the vulva, tail root and hocks. The affected dog's vulva is red and swollen, the vaginal mucosa is flushed, and the abdominal circumference is slightly enlarged.
3. Common symptoms

As the disease progresses, the appetite gradually disappears. Absolutely, the desire to drink gradually increases, the affected dog loses weight, the abdominal circumference increases, and the body is exhausted.
