Causes of seborrheic dermatitis in dogs:

1. Genetic factors. Primary seborrheic dermatitis has no underlying cause and often runs in families.

2. Own endocrine disorders.

3. Unbalanced diet and lack of nutrition.

4. Parasitic infection.

5. For most dogs with excessive sebum, the most common underlying causes are hormonal disorders and allergies. When the dog is younger than five years old, allergies are more likely to be the underlying cause. If dander begins to appear on a middle-aged or older dog, a hormonal disorder is more likely to be present. If your dog is not showing signs of harassment, this may rule out allergies, scabies, and other itchy conditions.

6. Infected by other dogs.

Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis in dogs:

1. The dog smells bad.

2. Waxy aggregates will appear on the dog’s back, legs, neck, and ears, as well as hair loss and itching.

3. When a dog is parasitized by Demodex, it will also cause abnormal sebum secretion in the skin.
