Pyometra in cats will not be transmitted to other cats because pyometra is not an infectious disease. Feline pyometra is a common disease after female cats enter sexual maturity. The cause of the disease is endometrial inflammation caused by multiple estruses and failure to conceive, as well as excessive accumulation of fluid in the uterus. Many owners often mistakenly think that they are pregnant at the early stage, and when they are sent to the pet hospital later, they are unable to recover. The best way to deal with pyometra is to neuter the female cat when it is due.

Treatment methods for pyometra:

1. Surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus is the most common and thorough treatment method, and it is also the most effective way to prevent the disease. It should be noted that the cat's body should be adjusted to an ideal state before surgery. If anemia occurs, blood transfusion should be performed first to relieve the anemia; if dehydration and electrolyte imbalance occur, acid-base balance and ion balance should be corrected by transfusion in advance. Adjuvant antibiotic therapy is usually continued for 7-14 days after surgery until clinical examination shows that the infection has been cleared.

2. For cats that cannot undergo surgery, conservative treatment can also be used. The main method is hormones. In addition to routine douching, antibacterial and anti-inflammation, conservative treatment mainly uses hormone (such as prostaglandin) regulation to reduce the progesterone content in the blood, help the uterus contract, and open the cervix to remove bacteria and pus. However, the success rate of hormone therapy depends on the individual and is very unstable.
