Preventive measures for canine distemper

1. Implement sanitary defense measures and disinfect regularly.

2. When sick dogs are found, they should be isolated and treated promptly to prevent mutual infection and expanded spread, and the kennels and sports venues should be disinfected. Disinfect easily with 3% caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) solution or 10% formaldehyde solution or sodium hypochlorite.

Precautions for vaccination:

1. Adult dogs should be injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously once a year.

2. Puppies should be injected once at 7 to 8 weeks of age or 12 to 16 weeks of age.

3. Dogs that are not breastfeeding should be injected when they are 2 weeks old.

4. If an epidemic is discovered in a group of dogs, other dogs should be immediately injected with attenuated canine distemper vaccine, which can also quickly control the epidemic. The vaccination time can be appropriately extended to 8 to 9 weeks of age, and the second dose should be given at 11~12 weeks of age, the third time at 14~15 weeks of age, and then the second immunization every six months at 3-week intervals.
