Dog parvovirus

1. The causative agent of this disease is canine parvovirus, which belongs to the family Parvoviridae, genus Parvovirus, and is of RNA type.

2. This virus has strong resistance to various physical and chemical factors and can survive for one hour at a pH value of 3-9 and 56°C. Use 0.5% formaldehyde solution, B-propiolactone, Both chloride and ultraviolet rays can extinguish fires.

3. Not sensitive to ethanol and chloroform. The antigens of this virus and feline panleukopenia virus are similar, and there is serological cross-reactivity between the two.

4. Divided into enteritis type and myocarditis type. Enteritis type: Mainly characterized by hemorrhagic necrosis of the small intestine, characterized by depression, loss of appetite, and vomiting. In the later stages of the disease, the dog's feces are mostly tomato-like and smelly.

5. Myocarditis type: It manifests as acute non-suppurative myocarditis, with pale mucous membranes, difficulty breathing, and often sudden death due to acute heart failure, which requires attention.

Causes of parvovirus in dogs

1. Insufficient immunity: When the dog is not immunized or the vaccine is incomplete, it is exposed to Dogs with parvovirus or their excrement, vomitus, and saliva may be infected with parvovirus when their owners return home. At this time, the dog's immunity is insufficient and unable to resist the invasion of parvovirus.

2. Stress triggers microorganisms: Puppies usually have very poor adaptability to the environment. Changes in the environment or sudden stimulation can cause them to have a stress response, making them more susceptible to viruses.

3. Parasites cause parvovirus: Small dogs that have not been dewormed are easily infected by parasites, causing vomiting and diarrhea, resulting in reduced dog resistance and easy infection with parvovirus.

4. Caused by improper diet: For example, feeding the dog milk, chicken bones, oily food, etc. can cause the dog to have diarrhea and become infected with parvovirus.

Treatment of parvovirus in dogs

1. Use antiviral drugs, such as parvovirus inhibitory protein, interferon, etc.

2. Since the dog’s white blood cells will decrease during parvovirus infection, antibiotics need to be used for treatment.

3. In case of repeated vomiting or bleeding, infusion treatment is required. The general course of illness is five to seven days.
