Symptoms of pneumothorax in dogs

1. Once a puppy suffers from closed pneumothorax, there will be little air accumulation in the chest and the symptoms will not be obvious; if it suffers from open pneumothorax, , there is a lot of air in the chest, and the symptoms are severe. In sick dogs with pneumothorax on the affected side, the thorax on the affected side is fuller and the breathing is significantly weakened.

2. If a pneumothorax occurs on the left side of the dog, the heart dullness area disappears or the heart sounds are distant during auscultation; if a pneumothorax occurs on the right side, the heart sounds on the right side cannot be heard.

3. The systemic symptoms of pneumothorax in puppies can include suddenly lying on the ground or being unwilling to stand up, or standing for a long time, and the main symptoms are abdominal breathing.

4. When pneumothorax is severe, cyanosis of the mucosa may be seen, and symptoms of collapse may also occur.

5. If it is a simple pneumothorax, the dog’s body temperature will not rise.

6. If it is pneumothorax caused by tuberculosis or lung abscess, toxemia may occur due to pleural infection, which may lead to an increase in body temperature.
