The reason cats with folded ears appear in the silver gradient layer is because they carry the folded ear gene. Folded ears in cats are caused by a genetic defect. If one of the parents has a fold-eared cat, it is possible to give birth to a fold-eared cat. If both parents have erect ears, but the child is born with folded ears, this possibility is also possible because there may be a recessive gene. At the same time, inbreeding will also increase the chance of cats having broken ears.

How to choose silver gradient layer

1. Coat color. The overall color of the silver gradient coat in good condition should be uniform, with no color patches or stripes. The whiter, the better, and those without tail rings are also better. But the tip color must be uniform black.

2. Eyes. Gradient eyes should be as big and round as possible, not long and flat almond-shaped eyes. Moreover, the eye pigment of the silver gradient layer should be greener, the better, and yellow is a disqualified cat.

3. Nose line and eyeliner. There are black lines around the nose and eyes of the silver gradient, called nose lines and eyeliners, which are the main features of the silver gradient. Round eyes will be more beautiful with eyeliner.

4. Paw pads. The paw pads of the silver gradient layer are all black or dark chocolate. If the cat has lighter paw pads, it is a disqualified cat. The color of the cat's paw pads and the surrounding fur is more obvious, and the cat's toes are evenly sized.
