Dogs can eat potatoes. Potatoes are rich in animal protein, sugar and starch, and also contain a variety of trace elements. Occasionally eating some potatoes for dogs is good for the body, but this does not mean that potatoes can be substituted. Dog food is the staple food that dogs usually eat.

Precautions for dogs eating potatoes:

1. Do not feed them in large quantities: potatoes contain a toxic substance called "solanine", which is harmful to dogs. Ingestion of large amounts may cause death, but the solanine in potatoes is broken down when the potatoes are fully heated until cooked. It is best to puree the potatoes before feeding them to your dog, which is easier to digest and will not irritate the stomach.

2. Unable to eat raw potatoes: Raw potatoes are absolutely not allowed for dogs because of solanine. Solanine is a toxic compound found in plants in the nightshade family, including white potatoes and tomatoes. Typically, the amount of solanine in these foods is not high enough to cause harm to humans, but depending on the amount, it can be toxic to dogs. Cooking potatoes uses up large amounts of solanine, making them less dangerous for dogs to eat.

3. Don’t eat sprouted potatoes: Don’t feed sprouted potatoes to your dog, not even cooked ones. Potatoes are poisonous after sprouting, so don’t let your dog get poisoned. Don’t throw sprouted potatoes around the house. Dispose of them promptly to prevent dogs from accidentally eating them.
