Injections can be given more than 24 hours after being scratched by a cat and bleeding, but the effect will not be as good as within 24 hours. Parents should go to the disease control within 24 hours after being scratched by a cat. The rabies vaccine should be injected at the center no later than forty-eight hours. The later the vaccine is administered, the less effective it will be.

After being scratched by a cat and bleeding, parents should wash the wound repeatedly with soap and water for several minutes, and then use alcohol or iodine to disinfect it. If the wound is deep, squeeze out the blood and wash it for a few more minutes.
