It does not necessarily mean that a dog is going to die if he breathes through his mouth. It may be because his nose is blocked and he is breathing through his mouth. Dogs may also breathe through their mouth due to lack of oxygen after strenuous exercise. When a dog is about to die, its body will slowly soften, its pupils will gradually enlarge, and its breathing will become weak.
