Dogs generally reach adulthood at about eight months old. It takes a year to fully mature. Some breeds of dogs may take longer. A major sign of a dog's maturity is sexual maturity. Dogs in heat are usually very irritable. If parents are not prepared to mate them, it is best to neuter them as soon as possible to avoid long-term heats leading to diseases.
