What is pyoderma

Pyoderma is one of the common skin diseases in dogs. Like other skin diseases, it has the same characteristics of skin diseases, such as easy recurrence and long treatment time. Pyoderma is a purulent infection of your dog’s skin, also known as purulent dermatitis.

Causes of Pyoderma

There are many causes of pyoderma in dogs, the most common of which are bacterial or pathogenic infections. Causes of pyoderma include a decrease in the dog's own skin protection mechanism or a decrease in immunity.

Symptoms of pyoderma

Pyoderma in puppies mainly occurs in the hairless areas on the inside of the front and rear limbs, and is more common in the abdomen. Most of them manifest as pustular rashes. The onset site of pyoderma in adult dogs is uncertain, and pustular rashes, small pustules, and purulent secretions can generally be seen on the skin. Symptoms of pyoderma include pustular rash, chapped skin, folliculitis, and pyoderma xerosus. Severe cases can cause skin ulceration, a foul odor, and the sore surface to be covered with purulent secretions.
