Emergency treatment for dog heatstroke

1. First, keep the dog away from the hot environment. If you are indoors, open windows for ventilation or turn on the air conditioner. If you are outdoors, find a shaded place for your dog to rest and don’t let him sweat from exercising anymore.

2. If the dog can still move, feed it some water instead of talking about drinks that people drink. If it doesn't want to drink, don't force it to drink water. In addition to drinking water, you can also use a shower to cool down. If spraying with a hose, make sure to reduce the water pressure. This is not a game, so the water spray must be gentle. The water temperature should not be too low. There is no need to deliberately find ice water. Clean water at normal temperature is enough.

3. You can use alcohol cotton to wipe the dog's paws to cool down, making sure that the dog's paws are not wrapped. Do not use too much alcohol to prevent the dog from licking it into his mouth.

4. You can wipe the dog's coat with a cool, damp towel, but don't be lazy and wrap the dog with a towel directly, and don't lock it in a cage.

5. Regardless of whether the situation has improved or not, it is recommended to take the dog to the hospital for further examination.

Preventing heat stroke in dogs

1. Living environment: Place pets in a place with good ventilation and avoid sunlight in all seasons. If necessary, give them an electric fan or install an air conditioner indoors. Especially in summer, the temperature difference between the internal and external environments is relatively large. While preventing heatstroke, pay attention to preventing the occurrence of respiratory diseases in your pets. It is better to keep the temperature below 28℃.

2. Life management: Long-haired pets can be shaved to help dissipate heat, and sufficient water should be added at any time. Special attention should be paid to the fact that when shaving, do not shave all the hair, just cut the hair short and thin it. (Note: After shaving, the sun will directly irradiate the skin. Many pets will suffer from dermatitis caused by this, and it will also increase the chance of heatstroke.)

3. Outdoor activities: Avoid taking pets out when the temperature is high, and absolutely no strenuous exercise. If you want to go out, you must bring drinking water, reduce the amount of exercise, and shorten the time you go out.

4. Increase vigilance: Pay attention to whether pets have abnormal behaviors or symptoms at any time, especially short-nosed cats or dogs, animals that are obese, have poor cardiopulmonary or liver and kidney function, and suffer from chronic diseases are prone to heatstroke, so pet owners should pay special attention.
