What is interdigital inflammation

Interdigital inflammation is also called interdigital pyoderma, and is also called pododermatitis. Interdigital inflammation is an inflammation of the skin that occurs between the toes, usually between the toes or anywhere on the sole of the foot. There are 5 toes on the front paw of a dog, and the body is generally supported by the 2nd to 5th toes. There are sunken spaces between the toes and the soles of the feet. The symptom of pustules between these toes is interdigital inflammation.

Symptoms of interdigital inflammation

The common symptom of interdigital inflammation is the growth of a small red dot between the toes or on the foot. It will look like a teenager at first. Pimples are generally large, and gradually get bigger and bigger. There may be pus and blood inside, or they may become very swollen. Some dogs will be afraid to step on the ground due to swelling and pain, so they will walk with a limp.

Causes of interdigital inflammation

1. Clinically, interdigital inflammation is common in dogs with wet feet, such as dogs that like to go to the toilet; or the owner often washes the dog when he comes back from going out. If your dog's feet are not dried after washing, the chance of interdigital inflammation will increase.
2. Sometimes you encounter small, sharp objects, such as miscanthus, plant seeds, small stones, etc., which may cause small wounds, and then be invaded and multiplied by bacteria, resulting in toenails. Interstitial inflammation.
3. Possible causes of interdigital inflammation include: bacteria, bacterial infection, parasites (tick, etc.), hookworm infection, atopic dermatitis, trauma, folliculitis or Hematoderma Menstrual abnormalities, immune diseases, detergents, etc., or caused by living in a dog cage because the toes are often stuck in the iron cage.
4. Dogs suffering from interdigital inflammation will continue to lick their paws due to inflammation, which will worsen the interdigital inflammation. If not treated in time, severe bleeding may occur. Even sepsis occurs.

Prevention of interdigital inflammation

1. After the dog takes a bath, the gaps between the soles of the dog’s feet should be dried.
2. Trim your dog’s foot hair and nails frequently.
3. When you come back from walking the dog, it is not recommended to wipe your feet with a wet towel. Because there will be dirt brought to the dog's feet outdoors and then wiped with a wet towel, bacteria can easily survive in the humid environment. It is recommended to rinse with clean water and blow dry.
4. Regularly check the dog's paws. If flushing attachments are found, clean and disinfect them in time.
