Puerperal fever in dogs

[Symptoms]

Puerperal fever refers to when the dog mother Postpartum febrile disease caused by uterine infection with pathogenic microorganisms. The main symptoms are that the dog's body temperature rises to above 39.5°C 1 to 2 days after delivery, with loss of appetite, poor energy, irritability, drinking more water, less lactation, fast and weak pulse, conjunctival congestion, and dry nose. Blood tests showed an increase in the total number of white blood cells and an increase in neutrophils.

[Treatment method]

1. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, large doses of antibiotics can be used.

2. Inject glucose sodium chloride injection, vitamin C, and sodium hydrogen phosphate solution intravenously to correct dehydration and acidosis.

[Prevention Methods]

1. Add vitamin A and vitamin E during pregnancy.

2. Do a good job of prenatal disinfection of the delivery room and dog mothers.

3. Midwifery utensils and instruments should be strictly disinfected, and arms should be disinfected during midwifery to prevent artificial infection.

4. Remove dirt promptly after delivery and scrub the breasts and vagina.

Precautions

Postpartum puerperal fever in dogs is mostly caused by low calcium after delivery. You should pay attention to calcium supplementation for dogs.
