Canine Heartworm

Heartworm is an adult worm of about ten centimeters that can parasitize in the heart of dogs and become a fatal cause. The route of infection is through mosquito bites. The older the dog, the greater the chance of infection. There are no clinical symptoms in the early stages of heartworm disease. Common symptoms include poor mobility and cough. In severe cases, cachexia, such as anemia, ascites, and asthma, may occur. The cure rate is high when discovered in the early stage, but the treatment effect is very poor when discovered in the late stage.

Blood parasites

Pyrozoism is one of the most serious causes of death from blood parasites. Pyrococcus is a blood parasitic disease transmitted by ticks. Pyrococcus is a protozoa that can only be seen with a microscope. The parasites parasitize in red blood cells and destroy them, causing hemolysis and severe anemia. Common prevention methods include regular administration of Flea drops or sprays to repel ticks on dogs and prevent mosquitoes.

Pneumonia

The causes of pneumonia in dogs are complicated. The general symptom is that a large amount of yellow secretions and pus appear in the dog’s nasal cavity. In addition to blood tests and X-rays, bacterial culture and drug sensitivity testing are effective ways to select drugs.

Diabetes

As an endocrine disease, the clinical symptoms of diabetes in dogs are the same as those in humans, which include eating more, drinking more, urinating more, and losing weight. In addition to providing high-fiber and low-fat food, sick dogs should be injected with insulin every day if necessary, and some blood sugar-lowering products can be used in conjunction. Diabetes often brings about some secondary diseases, such as cataracts, hypokalemia, metabolic acidemia, etc. Treatment requires great patience from the owner, otherwise the condition will get worse.

Pyometra

The threat of pyometra is serious for many female dogs. Unneutered female dogs are prone to pyometra due to bacterial infection and endocrine abnormalities. Pyometra is divided into open and closed types, with the latter being more dangerous. In severe cases, it will affect the operation of the heart, insufficient blood flow to the kidneys, leading to uremia, and even death from multiple organ failure.
