Symptoms of dog tracheal collapse

Dog tracheal collapse is also a relatively common clinical disease in dogs. Its symptoms usually include frequent coughing, poor exercise tolerance, difficulty breathing, and breath sounds. Clinical features of canine tracheal collapse
1. Wild goose inhalation is a typical feature.
2. Coughing may become severe due to hot weather, excitement, or exercise.
3. Fainting may occur due to lack of oxygen.
4. Exercise intolerance.
According to the degree of tracheal collapse, it is divided into grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 and grade 4.
Grade 1: 25% of the trachea has collapsed.
Grade 2: 50% of the trachea has collapsed.
Grade 3: 75% of the trachea has collapsed.
Grade 4: 100% of the trachea has collapsed.

Causes of dog tracheal collapse

A study shows that canine tracheal collapse is due to the lack of chondroitin sulfate in the canine tracheal ring. Cushing's disease (hyperadrenalism) can cause the cartilage structure of the trachea to weaken. There is evidence that more than 50% of tracheal collapses are caused by the gradual weakening of tracheal cartilage and collapse of the trachea.

How to diagnose tracheal collapse in dogs

There are two ways to diagnose.
1. Chest X-ray: When shooting, it is divided into two ways: inhalation and exhalation. Inhale: It is easier to diagnose a collapsed trachea in the neck when you inhale. Exhale: It is easier to diagnose a collapsed trachea in the chest when you exhale.
2. Tracheal lavage: Tracheal endoscopy and cytological examination can further understand the cause.
