Excessive eye discharge

Eye discharge is the most common eye disease. Clear discharge indicates tear drainage, although it may also be caused by foreign body irritation and inflammation. If the eye discharge is cloudy or purulent, your dog's eyes may be infected.

Delayed tissue swelling may push the eye forward. The eyeball itself may also swell, pushing the eye out of its socket.

Eyelid Problems

It is normal for some breeds to have a third eyelid, but in most dogs, if the third eyelid suddenly becomes bright and protruding, there may be a problem.

Congenital eyelid and eyelash disorders

The most common eyelid malformations are entropion and ectropion, where the eyelids turn inward, causing the eyelashes to pierce into the eyes. The eyelids turn outward, causing tears to accumulate in the bags formed by the eyelids, drying out the cornea.

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is a painful inflammation of the conjunctiva that may be caused by infection, scratching, congenital disease, eyelid tumors or severe irritants such as dust or smoke.

Cataract

Cataracts are opaque areas within the lens that will reduce your dog’s vision. Some are hereditary, and others may be caused especially by illness or poor feeding in the female dog during pregnancy. Many dogs develop cataracts as they age.

Glaucoma

There are two types of glaucoma, congenital and acquired. Congenital glaucoma is related to genetic factors, while acquired glaucoma is not restricted by dog ​​breeds. Any dog ​​may be affected by the disease. The drainage of atrial fluid between the cornea and the lens is blocked, resulting in an increase in intraocular pressure. The increase in intraocular pressure affects the optic nerve, resulting in weakened vision. The dog's vision is weakened, the eyeball is swollen, and the cornea protrudes outward.

Eyeball Prolapse

The normal eyeball is embedded in the eye socket. The main structure of the eye socket is bone, which is used to protect the eyeball. However, in some cases, the eyeball can move out of the eye socket, causing serious damage to the eye.
