When is the moulting period for Chow Chows? Chow Chows will start to moult 3-4 months after they are born. Generally, this moulting period will last 3-5 months; adult Chows will start to moult every spring and summer. The Chow will also moult at the turn of autumn and winter, which lasts for about one or two months; during the moulting period, it is best for the owner to comb its hair every day.

A newborn Chow Chow has very little hair, but from birth to three months, the lanugo hair will grow rapidly. When they are three months old, the Chow Chow will begin to moult, and this stage usually lasts until six months.
