How to choose a German Shepherd

The selection of German shepherd puppies is most suitable when the puppies are 40 days old. Because 40 days after the German Shepherd is born, the selected German Shepherd should be healthy, lively, with a strong appetite, no eye mucus and no weight loss, moist and cool nose pads, shiny and soft coat, bright eyes, and agile movements.
When selecting and testing the character of a German Shepherd, you can observe whether it is afraid of strangers, whether it can consciously play with people, whether it responds keenly to noises or shaking handkerchiefs, and whether it throws objects. Whether it is very interested, eager to play with people and interested in playing with other puppies, because this directly affects the interaction with family members after arriving home.
Check all parts of the dog’s appearance according to the standards that a German Shepherd should have. The first is the ratio of shoulder height to body length, whether it is about 8:10. German Shepherd male dogs can be slightly longer in stature.
Front page
The German Shepherd head requires a wedge shape, which is wider at the top, narrower at the bottom and longer. The muzzle of a male dog should be broad and should not be too slender. The incisors should lightly cover the front 1/3 of the mandibular incisors, making close contact like scissors. The gap between the maxillary incisors and mandibular incisors is very small.
Shoulder height
The shoulder height of a German Shepherd male dog should be about 62cm, and the shoulder height of a German Shepherd female should be about 58cm. The weight of a German Shepherd male dog should be between 35-40Kg, and the weight of a female German Shepherd dog should be between 29-32Kg.
Eyes and ears
Eyes should be dark in color and almond-shaped is preferred; ears should be upright, and tails drooping in a saber style meet the requirements; the height of the tail should not exceed the horizontal line of the back.
Deep chest
The chest should be deep enough to reach the elbow, the knees should be slightly bent, and the abdomen should be slightly retracted. The testicles of the German Shepherd male should be visible, and should not be cryptorchid testicles or single testicles.
limbs
The limbs should be strong and the gait should be steady and comfortable. When selecting, the dog should be allowed to move. If after running a few steps, the hind limbs merge together and jump, it may be injured.
Coat color
The typical coat color of German Shepherds is black on the back and yellow on the belly. Some have white spots on the chest, usually mostly dark brown. Wolf gray German Shepherds also exist, but rarely; black is preferred around the muzzle.
