How to choose a purebred Corgi puppy

1. What kind do you like?
Corgis are divided into two major categories. Generally, the ones we see are Pembroke Welsh Corgis (the same type we will talk about next), and the other ones are Cady and Corgis (more on this later if you are interested) Chat), first figure out which type of Corgi you like, because although these two types of Corgi are both called Corgi, they are completely different in terms of personality, appearance and color.
To put it simply, Pembroke is more in line with the Chinese aesthetic of "cuter", sheds fur, is relatively cheap, and has a bit of a noisy personality. Cady is bigger, does not shed hair, and has a stable personality, but its appearance does not meet the Chinese aesthetic and is "not cute" (it is actually very cute), and the price is more expensive.
2. What coat color do you like?
There are several color combinations of Pembroke Corgis. The words we often hear are: yellow and white two-color, yellow-headed three-color, black-headed three-color, sable, cream, and black and white.
Yellow and white: the most likely coat color in genes, the most common, yellow and white, nothing to say
Yellow head three colors: The head is mainly yellow, the body of the adult dog is like wearing a black vest, the limbs are yellow, and there is a black line from the corner of the eye to the ear, but the puppy has not completely lost its hair, so it looks Going up, the body is more black.
Blackhead three colors: The head is mainly black and has a relatively obvious feature. The two thick yellow patches above the eyes are the same as the small eyebrows. The black hair on the legs of most people with blackheads and tricolors will not fade into adulthood. Distinguish between yellow head and three colors.
Mink color: There are two-color mink and three-color mink. In fact, they are also three-color, but with less black hair.
Cream color: light yellow, not white. Cream color is not a color classification, but the yellow fur on the base is lighter.
Black and white: In fact, it is just that there are fewer yellow hairs, not true black and white.
But in fact, these are folk opinions. Although they are also correct, the more academic and formal description of coat color is like this:
Key point 1: The younger you are, the harder it is to see the coat color. When they are born, they are almost all black, and the details of Corgi’s coat color will slowly change.
Key point 2: No coat color is more expensive, they are all the same. It depends on the appearance of the coat.
Key point 3: There is no coat color that has obvious characteristics of being heavier. How big and heavy it is depends on appearance and feeding
Key point 4: If the color is a little off, it means that this little corgi has a genetic defect and has genes for invisible diseases. What exactly is disqualification will be discussed in a moment.
3. What kind of sex do you like?Ge? Every puppy has a different personality. Whether you like a quiet one or a lively one will make a big difference. However, the younger they are, the harder it is to tell their personalities, and even corgis with very different personalities still have some annoying habits (such as barking at the door). These still need to be learned in the future. Come to training. So how can you roughly distinguish the personality of a puppy when you meet him for the first time?
There is a method you can try. Pick the dog up and sit down, turning him over against you. The belly is up, with the back against your belly. Observe the puppy's reaction in this position: whether it turns over immediately, waits for a while, or does not turn over on its own initiative.
Turn over immediately: Alpha wolf has a personality that is not easy to tame. He has his own ideas and is more possessive.
Wait for a while and turn it over: a thinker character who can assess the situation. This kind of dog will be smarter and may be naughty. He will not take the initiative to turn it over: a dog that is easy to tame. Although it can be naughty occasionally, it can be managed well. easy.
Key point 1: The smaller the puppy, the harder it is to distinguish it. It is best to observe its character when it is 2 and a half months to 3 months old.
Key point 2: Personality will also change due to some things, such as being brave and becoming timid. These are all related to the subsequent socialization of the dog and the owner.
4. Do you want competition-level offspring or ordinary pets?
Generally, people have two demands when looking for a dog. Most of them want to find a companion who is like a family member. In addition, some people also hope that their dog can appear in the dog breed competition and win some honors. If you are a person with the second appeal, you need to look for a dog with a birth certificate or pedigree certificate. The parents and grandparents of these dogs can be traced, and you can pay attention to the health genes and the performance of the ancestors in the competition. These dogs will also be relatively More expensive. If you are a person with the first appeal, it doesn’t matter about the birth certificate or pedigree certificate, just find a Corgi you like. If you have a domestic pet, you don’t have to ask for training and competition.
Key point 1: Single-blooded and non-bloodline dogs are the same, both are pet-grade. Double-blooded dogs are the real bloodline dogs.
5. What does a disqualified dog mean?
Is the price the same? Disqualification means losing the qualification for the competition (physical competition). Why does it lose the qualification for the competition? Because the disqualified dog does not meet the breed standards.
Why should we meet the breed standard? Because the standard is to determine whether the dog has a known healthy genetic inheritance. Why should we judge whether it is inherited from known healthy genes? Because only in this way can the dog breed develop healthily.
So what is a disqualification? Anything that does not meet the Corgi breed standard is called a disqualification. Disqualification is a genetic mutation in a purebred dog, not a string. Here are a few common disqualifications: blue eyes, white ears, pirate face, white hair on the back (over the shoulders), cryptorchidism, disproportionate frame, etc. The most common one isColor disqualification, the general standard is as follows, you can refer to it: white cannot appear in places other than the nose line, corners of the mouth, top of the head, neck, belly, legs, and tail tip (the docked tail cannot be seen), otherwise it will be disqualified.
So if there is a disqualified dog, what does a regular kennel usually do? Sign a sterilization agreement and sell it at a low price. Why it is not recommended to breed disqualified dogs, please see the reasons at the top of this article.
6. Are three links the standard for a good Corgi?
The three-way connection is a concept hyped up by Chinese dog dealers. The presence or absence of white on a Corgi’s head does not constitute a judgment of good or bad appearance. The less white, the less likely it is to be disqualified. The Queen of England has dozens of corgis, but only one of them meets the aesthetics of the Chinese dog dealers, and the others are not three-way. Many champion dogs in the competition do not have the so-called three-way. Will the price of the three-way be high? This is a concept created by dog dealers. A truly good Corgi depends on its frame size and proportions.
