First, you need a suitable pair of nail clippers. There are two main types of nail clippers on the market today. One is shaped like scissors, and the other is a nail clipper with a round hollow like a guillotine. Both types of nail clippers have their own pros and cons, but in general the latter is easier to use than the former.

Secondly, you need to control your dog well. We recommend two postures for everyone to choose from:

1. Lie prone, let the dog lie on the table, and use nail clippers to cut the nails on the side of it. When cutting the nails of the front paws, place the arm not holding the nail clippers slightly on the dog's neck, and the hand on the same side can lift its paw. The hand holding the nail clippers needs to go around the owner's body, from the back of the dog's paws to the front.

2. Lying on its side. If your dog is too disobedient, you can also choose to let it lie on its side. The arm not holding the nail clippers also holds the dog's neck, and the hand on the same side lifts his paw. The hand holding the nail clippers went around the dog's body, his arm pressed on the dog's body to stabilize it, and he held the nail clippers. Then, you can cut your nails.

Finally, how to cut nails without bleeding? Unlike cats, dog nails cannot shrink. Moreover, the color of a dog's nails is related to the color of the surrounding skin and hair, so it is possible that the nails on the same paw will have different colors.

It is relatively easy to cut light-colored nails because the part above the "blood line" (quick) is pink. As long as you leave about two millimeters away from the pink area, there will be no bleeding.

As for dark nails, parents, please be careful! You can’t see the blood line, so try to cut as slowly as possible, a little at a time, several times, and pay attention to the broken ends of the dog’s nails while cutting. If the top half of the nail is dark and the bottom half is light, you can continue to cut it. If there is a gray or pink oval area between the two parts, do not cut further. If you cut again, bleeding may occur.

Generally speaking, the nails of a dog’s hind limbs can be trimmed less frequently than those of the forelimbs. Another thing to note is that you must remember to trim your thumb nails.
