Dogs that consume 3.5-7 grams of cocoa powder per kilogram of body weight can be fatal. Cocoa powder is the main processed ingredient of chocolate and contains a variety of methylxanthine derivatives, which can poison the central nervous system and myocardium of dogs. Humans can digest it through metabolism, but dogs’ digestive systems do not have this function. When the intake of methylxanthine reaches the 50% lethal dose, it will cause death in dogs. Therefore, you must treat your dog as soon as possible after discovering it has been eaten by mistake.

In addition to cocoa powder, dogs can’t eat anything else:

1. Onions. Onions contain sulfur, which can destroy red blood cells in young children and cause anemia. Onions are highly toxic to dogs. Eating too much can cause acute anemia and even be life-threatening.

2. Milk. Although milk has high nutritional value, dogs, unlike humans, lack the corresponding conversion enzymes and are not easy to digest and absorb. Some dogs will develop vomiting, diarrhea and other digestive tract diseases after consuming milk.

3. Sweets. Long-term consumption of sweet foods, such as drinks and desserts, can make dogs susceptible to diabetes and obesity.
