A dog can be rescued even if its heart stops. It can be rescued no more than 4 to 6 minutes after the cardiac arrest. When a dog experiences cardiac arrest, the process is very rapid. The dog will collapse, lose consciousness, and eventually stop breathing, and all other body organs will soon stop functioning. Unless the dog can be successfully resuscitated within a few minutes, death will occur.

Causes of dog heart stopping:

1. Heart disease. Being overweight, diabetic, or suffering from serious bacterial infections can increase your dog's risk of heart disease.

2. Heartworm disease. When a dog's heart contains a parasite called heartworm, it may cause cardiac arrest.

3. Brain trauma. Brain damage can cause a dog to lose excessive blood and even directly affect the operation of its circulatory and respiratory systems.

4. Poisoning. Some toxic foods, plants and chemicals will affect the dog's body functions and damage the dog's respiratory system.

5. Complications of anesthesia. Complications of anesthesia are rare, but they can cause cardiac arrest in dogs.

6. Receive electric shock. Whether it is a human or a dog, cardiac arrest may occur after an electric shock.
