1. Cause

The main reason is that when cats groom themselves, they lick the shed hair into the stomach. The hair accumulates in the stomach to form hair balls. This disease is more common in long-haired cats and shorter-haired cats.

2. Symptoms

Cats with hairy balls in their stomachs show retching. Some cats want to eat, but then leave after a few mouthfuls. Cats with severe symptoms do not eat, gradually become thinner, and their stomachs are sensitive to palpation.

3. Treatment

1. Induce vomiting, apomorphine 0.08 mg/kg body weight, intramuscular injection.

2. Take 5 to 10 ml of paraffin oil orally.

3. In severe cases, gastrotomy is required to remove the hair bulb.
