Symptoms of dog keratitis

Traumatic keratitis, traces of trauma can be seen on the surface of the cornea, and the injured part is rough and uneven. Corneal epithelial damage and secondary infection may result in localized white raised corneal infiltrates. When the cornea forms an ulcer, it may cause blurred vision, tears, and blurred vision. Or blepharospasm, the cornea appears light yellow or pure yellow turbidity. When large-area ulcers occur, corneal leukoplakia may be seen and may even cause corneal fistulas.
Katitis caused by inflammatory stimulation is mostly corneal opacity. When the cornea is perforated, the aqueous humor rushes out quickly, and the iris can be washed into the wound, causing local iris prolapse, adhesion between the iris and the cornea, and constriction of the pupil.

Treatment methods for dog keratitis

Choose eyewash with Ringer's solution that is less irritating and close to body temperature. For acid immersion, use 3% sodium bicarbonate solution, and for alkali immersion, use 1% acetic acid solution. Mainly cleans the conjunctival sac and the inner surface of the nictitating membrane. If the pH is neutral, it means it is clean. Then fluorescein staining is performed, and if there is tissue defect, it is treated as a corneal ulcer. Choose an oil-based solution to put into your eyes to prevent the conjunctiva from healing.

In conjunction with treatment of the primary disease. Eyelid entropion, trichiasis, etc. secondary to need to be corrected.
To prevent iris adhesion, 1% atropine sulfate solution can be instilled in the eyes, 1 to 3 times a day, or its ointment can be applied in the conjunctival sac. In order to eliminate new blood vessels and control corneal opacity, a mixture of penicillin, procaine, and dexamethasone can be injected into the depression above and outside the affected orbit, and inserted 2 to 3 cm obliquely backward, medially, and below. After the injection, the eye swelling will increase, and the swelling will subside after 2 to 3 days. For cases of secondary iritis such as canine infectious hepatitis, corticosteroid preparations cannot be used in the eyes at the beginning of the disease. Instead, chloramphenicol and gentamicin, which can easily penetrate the blood-aqueous humor barrier, can be injected intramuscularly. Coenzyme vitamin B2 can promote corneal metabolism and is applied in the conjunctival sac 1 to 3 times a day. It is effective for eye diseases such as angiogenesis and corneal opacity.
For dry keratitis, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and vitamin D can be taken orally.
