Although the hair on the body of a truly high-quality Shar-Pei is short and hard, it feels smooth to the touch, and you can touch it hard against the hair. It won't feel like it's getting in the way either. The hair of impure Shar-Pei dogs is mostly shaved with a razor. When touched, it will feel rough and hard, and the texture of the fur is not smooth.
