How to care for Basset

1. Ear care
The Basset Hound has a pair of long and large ears, which lack contact with the air. It is very easy to cause ear inflammation and breed bacteria. In severe cases, it can cause ear mite disease. Big ears like the Basset Hound always hang down. If it is left open, the air inside will not circulate, and it will emit a bad smell if it is not kept clean for a long time. Regardless of whether it can cause illness, the smell alone may be off-putting, and you may also feel particularly uncomfortable when you are playing in close proximity with your dog.
Therefore, Basset’s ears require the owner to take some time to help clean them every day. You can use a soft towel to wring out wet water and slowly wipe the inside of the ears. Basset has big ears, so cleaning them is not troublesome, as long as you pay attention to them. Just good hygiene.
2. Other care
Although the Basset's hair is very short and does not require a lot of care and combing, the Basset's mouth and skin (especially the folds on the face) are prone to odor. The owner can usually take care of the dog's oral cavity every week to keep the teeth clean and remove the odor. The odor of the old dog is relatively strong. If the odor is caused by the skin, it is better to give the dog a bath.
The Basset Dog’s lower eyelids are ectropion, so the eyes should always be kept clean and the eyes should be washed with boric acid water every day to avoid infection. Exercise for about 40 minutes every day. If the dog scratches its eyes frequently, it is not only necessary to clean the dog's eyes, but also to apply eye drops. It is best to take the dog to the pet hospital for treatment.
